At this year’s AGM, Donegal Youth Council launched its new Study and College Toolkit, a
resource designed to help students manage school stress and navigate decisions about life after
secondary school.
School and exam stress is a key focus for the Youth Council this term. What began as an idea for a
simple study guide grew into a more comprehensive booklet when members realised that
uncertainty about college, apprenticeships, and future options is also a major pressure for young
people.
The toolkit covers a wide range of practical topics, including study techniques, subject choices,
college and apprenticeship pathways, CAO and UCAS applications, financial supports such as SUSI,
and information on available wellbeing and academic supports.
Mayor Cassie Lambe said the Youth Council is proud to make the resource available: “Young people
across Donegal asked us to address school stress. Publishing this booklet is extremely exciting, and
we hope it helps ease some of the pressure students feel.”
Deputy Mayor Breegeen Boner added: “This resource offers study advice, tips for managing stress,
and guidance on grants and college life as students plan their next steps.”
The toolkit has been distributed to schools and youth organisations across the county, with both
printed and digital versions available. Coordinator Michael McDevitt noted that QR codes in the
printed booklet and clickable links in the digital version make it easy for students to access further
information.
The Donegal Library Service has also partnered with the Youth Council to make the toolkit available
on public computers and through the library website, ensuring it is accessible to young people
countywide.
