National Executive
The Comhairle na nÓg National Executive works with Ministers, Oireachtas Committees and policy makers to make sure the recommendations from Dáil na nÓg are taken on board, and that real change can begin to take place for young people in Ireland.
Who we are
Facilitated by the Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth and the National Participation Office, the National Executive is made up of 31 elected young people, one from each Comhairle across Ireland.
Their mission is to progress one issue of national importance for young people over their two-year term. Meeting once a month to chart progress, they work hard to ensure that the rights, views and opinions of young people are taken into account when it comes to the government decision-making affecting them.
What we're working on
The incoming National Executive for 2024-2026 has been tasked with advocating for policy change to address the issue of school stress. In advance of Dáil na nÓg, mental health was identified by over 3,000 young people across Comhairle na nÓg as the focus of their discussion. School stress was the topic that emerged as the one they feel government should be prioritising when it comes to young people’s mental health.
