Donegal Youth Council has published its 2023-2024 newsletter, highlighting a busy and productive year of youth participation, advocacy and community engagement across the county.
The newsletter showcases the work undertaken by Youth Council members on issues affecting young people in Donegal, including mental health, vaping awareness, road safety, education, homelessness, community wellbeing and youth participation in decision-making.
Key highlights include:
- Participation in the Donegal Youth Conference 2023, where over 125 young people discussed vaping, mental health and social media/body image.
- Ongoing work with Cruinniú na nÓg and the Donegal Road Safety Working Group.
- Advocacy on vaping through engagement with the Minister for Health and participation in the Irish Heart Foundation Endgame Conference.
- Representation of young people’s views at Municipal District meetings and at Dáil na nÓg 2024.
- Community initiatives including the Focus Ireland Wakeathon for Homelessness and consultations on Donegal’s Local Economic and Community Plan (LECP).
- Development of a Donegal Youth Council podcast exploring issues important to young people.
The newsletter demonstrates the important role the Donegal Youth Council plays in ensuring the voices of young people are heard at local and national level, while supporting positive change on issues that matter to young people throughout Donegal.
