The Gender Equality Assembly brought together 45 young people aged 12–24 from across Ireland to discuss how gender inequality affects their lives and explore how greater equality can be achieved for children and young people. The Assembly took place on 25 September 2024 at the Decorative Arts and History Museum, Collins Barracks, Dublin.

Throughout the Assembly, participants shared their experiences, explored barriers to gender equality and developed ideas and recommendations across six key areas: women in leadership, politics and jobs; sport and leisure; health; language and stereotyping; gender-based violence; and education. Young people discussed why inequalities exist, considered potential solutions and developed recommendations for meaningful change.The Assembly gave young people an opportunity to contribute directly to national discussions on gender equality. Their recommendations were developed to help inform the National Strategy for Women and Girls, ensuring that the experiences and perspectives of young people were considered as part of the development of the Strategy.

Following the Assembly, Hope and Sheenagh, delegates from the National Youth Assembly of Ireland 2023/2024, took part in the launch of the National Strategy for Women and Girls, continuing young people’s involvement in this important area of national policy.
