The National Youth Assembly on Climate 2025 took place on Saturday 5 April 2025 at the Department of Children, Disability and Equality in collaboration with the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment.

A total of 59 young delegates aged 12-24 from across Ireland gathered to explore climate action, share their perspectives, and develop recommendations for Government NYAC Report 2025 Final. Delegates represented Comhairle na nÓg and a wide range of youth and community organisations from 20 counties nationwide.

Following workshops, group discussions and a World Café session, delegates agreed a series of recommendations which were presented to Government and have informed ongoing climate policy discussions.

Key Recommendations

Delegates developed recommendations across three areas:

1. Individual Climate Actions

  • Promote the personal and co-benefits of climate action (e.g. reduced energy bills, tree planting incentives).
  • Mandate climate education hours in primary schools.
  • Integrate climate action into the curriculum across educational institutions.
  • Promote a circular economy using the 4 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair NYAC Report 2025 Final.

2. Youth, Community & Intergenerational Climate Actions

  • Require schools to engage in climate action through youth work and consultations.
  • Expand public transport routes and times in rural Ireland.
  • Provide local authority funding for community climate initiatives.
  • Introduce community rewards and incentives for climate participation NYAC Report 2025 Final.

3. Advocacy & Lobbying on Climate

  • Introduce engaging primary school education on climate change.
  • Encourage youth artistic expression and climate content creation.
  • Explore emissions-based tax brackets for businesses.
  • Hold regional assemblies of Green Schools and climate action groups NYAC Report 2025 Final.

These recommendations were presented to the Minister for Climate, Energy and the Environment and departmental officials, with formal responses provided as part of the Assembly follow-up process NYAC Report 2025 Final.
