Members of the 2026 Youth Advisory Group met today with Minister of State for European Affairs and Defence, Thomas Byrne TD, to present and discuss the findings of the Seanad na nÓg Report.
The group spoke about the key priorities identified by young people during Seanad na nÓg, including Peace and Security, Climate Action, Education and Youth, Cost of Living, Equality, Substance Misuse, and Young People in Care. It was a positive and engaging discussion, with meaningful dialogue on how these issues can inform Ireland’s national priorities.
Seanad na nÓg, held in November 2025, brought together 55 delegates aged 12-17 from across Ireland. The event was designed to capture the views, experiences and priorities of young people in advance of Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026. Its aim was to ensure that the voices of young citizens help shape the national conversation around Ireland’s Presidency priorities.
We thank Minister Byrne TD for taking the time to meet with the Youth Advisory Group and engage with the issues raised. We look forward to continuing to ensure that young people’s voices are heard as Ireland prepares for its upcoming EU Presidency.
