Hi everyone, my name is Jason, and I’m proud to represent ISSU at the National Youth Assembly 2025/2026.
I joined the Assembly because I saw it as a great opportunity to grow and gain something meaningful, and looking back, I’m really glad I did. From a young age, I’ve been passionate about uplifting young voices and listening to people’s stories from their own perspectives. I’ve been part of the Online Health Assembly, which not only expanded my own knowledge but also allowed me to help others better understand online safety and their rights as young internet users.
Being part of the Assembly has helped me develop so many valuable skills, especially my interpersonal skills. I feel much more confident now speaking in both small groups and larger settings. I’ve gone from being quite quiet to becoming more outgoing and comfortable engaging with a wide range of people, including young people, Ministers, and Department staff. One of the best parts has been working with young people from across Ireland. Hearing different perspectives, from rural communities to urban areas like my own, and from people of different cultural backgrounds, has really opened my eyes and helped me grow. I’ve also made so many great friends along the way.
You never know where these connections might lead in the future, and that’s something really special. I truly believe the Assembly is making a difference. Young people have the chance to speak directly with decision-makers, and those conversations are valued and taken seriously. One of my favourite memories so far was the Online Health Assembly photoshoot, where we were asked to do funny and awkward poses outside the Department building. We all found it hilarious and really enjoyable. If I could give one piece of advice, it would be this: be confident and walk in like you own the building.
It’s an amazing opportunity, and as the saying goes, opportunity knocks but once.
