The Comhairle na nÓg National Executive, made up of 31 elected young people from each Comhairle across Ireland, started its term following Dáil na nÓg 2024. The members were appointed by the local Comhairlí at the beginning of 2024.
The new National Executive’s focus is on mental health, specifically school stress, which was identified as a key issue by over 3,000 young people across Comhairle na nÓg during Dáil na nÓg (National Youth Parliament). The National Executive was tasked with advocating for policy change to address this issue.
The new National Executive held its first two meetings in May 2024, one online and one in person. At the in-person meeting, members met with the outgoing National Executive, receiving valuable tips and advice as the baton was officially passed.
Since these meetings, the group has met monthly to discuss and progress the topic of school stress. In summer 2024, the National Executive held nominations and elected members to key roles, including Chairs, Vice Chairs, Steering Committee members, Social Media Representatives, Inclusivity and Wellbeing Representatives, and Irish Language Representatives.
As of September 2024, the National Executive is focused on prioritising the topic of school stress and setting up a Steering Committee to guide their work over the next two years.
